Dear PVRCers and friends of Steve Cole GW4BLE,

It is with great sadness and a sense of relief for Steve that I report Steve's passing early this morning.


I received this email from Jack, G8DX this morning, how had visited Steve two days ago and informed us things were not looking good.
"It is with deep sadness that I'm reporting the passing of our friend, Steve GW4BLE. Steve passed away this morning at 02:30 at the Royal Gwent hospital in Newport with his wife beside him."



Steve and I were what I would call "very close" radio friends.  Even though we never met, we would email each other incessantly before, during and after contests,and Steve was an anonymous fan of team W3LPL and would campaign for our wins.  We would check in with each other even during the off season.

For the past few months he and I had been texting about his recent surgery and recovery - which almost seemed like it was going to work - against all odds.

A weeks ago when we were texting he told me he would not likely recover from his current predicament.

Steve remained positive until he became a silent key.  He was one of the most enthusiastic contesters I ever "met" and he talked glowingly about his wife/family and recently, his first
grandchild (see his qrz.com page).

Steve also has a really cool lookup of contest QSOs where you can hear yourself - you might want to listen before it gets taken down and remember some of your QSOs with him.

The world lost a great man this morning - however it is good to know Steve is no longer suffering.
